Plastic pants are a way to have extra protection. They seem less comfortable on the outside, but underneath your baby will still have cotton cloth diapers close to the skin. The plastic pants act as a diaper cover that keep wetness both in and out. With cloth diapers, keeping wetness out from every angle is important.

Plastic pants may just be an issue of security. They are not mandatory for cloth diapers but they cant hurt either. They can only help. Some babies may find the pants bulky and uncomfortable, while some others may not have a problem.

The term bulky may be unfair. Its not as thought they are big and cumbersome. You can buy plastic pants which are relatively thin. Its just that some babies are particularly sensitive to any number of things. I cant begin to make a blanket statement that your baby will love plastic pants. Theres just no telling.

However, those parents who put their babies in plastic pants swear by them. They like knowing that their baby has extra wetness protection at all times. Should a diaper break for some reason, its an extra layer of protection. When diapers break, blankets, sheets, clothing, and car seats become wet as well so its very important to guard against this.
